Received the Whirley Pop aluminum model with metal gears today. I immediately registered it with Whirley Pop to activate the 25 year warranty. I washed it, seasoned it and poured in the Wabash Valley Farms popping kit that comes with the Whirley Pop. Used it on a gas stove set on medium heat. My first impression was that the unit seemed too thin and lightweight. However, I now believe that it may be constructed this way in order to more quickly transfer heat into the popcorn kernels. I was amazed at how fast it is to pop a batch of popcorn. The popping kit made it very easy, with the kernels, coconut oil, and popcorn salt all in one pouch. Just cut it open, pour it in and you're ready to go. I won't be purchasing any additional 'popping kits' however, after I see how much they cost. Definitely worth it to purchase kernels, oil and some Flavacol salt, and measure them out yourself. Much cheaper. The metal gears on the Whirley Pop operate smoothly, with no binding. The lid is easy to remove for cleaning, and while it does seem like some thin gauge aluminum, it does feel like it should last for years. Time will tell. The popcorn itself is much better looking and tasting than microwave popcorn, which is mostly all I've eaten for many years. I'm happy with this purchase, and would recommend this product if you're a popcorn enthusiast like myself. I will update if I have any issues with this product.

Well, this is maybe the seventh or eighth Whirley Pop I've owned. Why so many? I keep giving them to friends and family who are blown away with how fast, easy, and perfect they are for making great popcorn. It takes about three minutes from start to finish for a big (6 quart!) bowl of fresh, hot, and really crisp popcorn. Add another minute to rinse the popper with hot water, and you're done! There are almost no "Old Maids" either, since the Whirley Pop makes popcorn exactly as a commercial popper does, plus it's fun and easy, too. Even the little kids can make it (with close supervision, of course). Check out the varieties of corn, oils, and flavorings available from Wabash...they even have complete pre-measured packs that make it really easy! And, if you want to get creative, you can make Kettle, Caramel, Cheesy and other styles of popcorn, too. One of the best values, best gifts, and best tools available. Love this thing! Makes great popcorn!

I am so pleased with this purchase! I’ve never had more delicious popcorn, and the popper is way to use. It’s fun to crank the handle, too. Weird? Haha! I was surprised at how light weight the pot is, so I am careful not to drip it in fear of denting it. I also wish it were dishwasher safe. Cleaning it can be a bit of a pain, because I don’t like washing dishes by hand. However, that doesn’t stop me from using the heck out of this things I do prefer using my own pipcorn, oil, and seasoning, as I find the pre made packets expensive and too salty. I use coconut oil which gives the popcorn a nice flavor.

Best popcorn maker i have ever owned

It pops that well. Never have more than 1 or 2 unpopped kernels in the batch, either. It is very easy to clean, and it really works well. This comes with the individual portion packs (3 of them) plus when you register, you can an additional 2 of those. They make about a 6-cup batch of popped corn, and it is very tasty. But (!) I prefer the flavor of the Amish Country corn and popping oil, along with about 2 tsp of the Flavacol seasoning. That's the mixture that really comes out tasting like movie theater popcorn. Plus, there aren't all those chemical additives that you find in products like jiffy pop or microwave popped corn. The gear assembly is made of plastic, and right away I understood two themes in the reviews: 1. Turn the crank S-L-O-W-L-Y when popping (or else the kernels will all collect on the side). 2. When I back a full batch (3/4 cup of kernels -> 8 cups popped) towards the end it become difficult to turn the crank. This is a clue that popping is nearly done. I can see how the gears would strip if you try to keep it turning once the hopper is nearly full. Overall, I rate this 5 stars because I finally have a way to make popcorn that is incredibly delicious. I also like the little popcorn boxes that come with it. Would like to buy more of those. For the super bowl, I had to make 4 large batches back to back for some recipes I was preparing. This worked beautiful. From the time I lit the stove to the point where I had popped corn ready for eating, was no more than 3 minutes. This is definitely the right product if you love pop corn the way I do. And be sure to register your product. You get free stuff that's pretty cool, but also I can totally see the gear mechanism malfunctioning if you try too hard to turn the crank. But, if it's registered, and you do, you can easily get a replacement lid.

This gift set is apparently identical to the more expensive Whirley-Pop Popper option here on Amazon, as it comes with the 6-quart popper and some bags of coconut oil and popcorn. I got mine this afternoon and was popping perfect popcorn minutes later, after a quick wash of the popper. The popper itself is of high quality, with a wood-clad turning handle and nylon gears that operate smoothly when cranking. The main pot is made of good quality aluminum--not very thick and heavy, but certainly sturdy enough to last for years. The lid is pretty thin though and it would be easy to warp or bend it. The steam holes do let out lots of steam during popping and care should be exercised when holding the crank not to get steam or hot oil burns from those vents. Cooking the popcorn is as easy as you would expect it to be. The oil heats evenly and smoothly and the crank keeps the kernals evenly heated so that popping happens quickly and over a short period of time, which actually prevents the popcorn from burning. The crank turns smoothly, with a little more effort required as the popped kernals fill the kettle. Clean-up is easy--a little soap and water will get even burned sugar out of the kettle, I discovered. Some people just wipe the inside and leave it. All-in-all a good value for a pot dedicated to popcorn. If you're serious about your popcorn, this is an affordable choice. My brother has a stainless steel pot and he said that the plastic viewport in his melted. Although this one is made of aluminum, it actually seems better made. Buy with confidence.
