Upgraded version
This one was tough to review. I purchased to Upgraded version which has a buckle and slits down the sides instead of draw strings. The first one I purchased was an xl based on the size chart and inaccurate reviews. I am 5'9" and about 185 lbs, wear size 34 in most shorts. I would normally wear a med to a large in this type of product, but they run very big. I returned the xl and reordered the large. Amazon handled the return with speed and the greatest of ease. When I received the large it fit much better on the waist, but the legs are a bit long and wide. For me they fit exactly like loose fitting board shorts. If a medium was available I may have sent the large back to check the fit.Seems to be well made, but the D-rings and grommets are not marine grade stainless steel and will rust, but for the price they are nice functional shorts. That's the reason for the 3 stars.

Size Matters
I was a bit skeptical about buying the upgraded Layatone Diving Shorts prior to an extended scuba diving trip to French Polynesia; I would not be back in time to return them if necessary. I read ALL the reviews trying to figure out which size to order but the feedback was all over the place! Most stated they ordered the size they would normally wear for other apparel; some said the size they received was too big, some said too small. I'm 5'10", 190 lbs with just a bit of the beginnings of a love-handle around the middle. I normally wear a 34" waist, Large in most generic "no-size given" apparel. Between the reviews and the size chart, I decided to order "Large". They seemed a bit loose but should have worked.... Unfortunately, I should have gone medium. The shorts have adjustable hook and loop (velcro) on the sides to make the waist smaller and an adjustable belt, with a portion sewn to each side and meeting in the front with a plastic fastener to tighten the waist; however, this was BARELY enough. I adjusted the velcro as tight as possible; this was enough to keep them from falling down, as long as they didn't have much in the pockets or they weren't too wet. The belt was useless! With the velcro as tight as it could go, the belt would not adjust small enough to even take up the excess slack of the belt, let-alone help hold the shorts up! I dove about 20 times, on 10 days, spread over 30 days. Thankfully, they never fell down. I normally wash my equipment off, throwing it in a freshwater container to soak for a few minutes when they are available. Sometimes I forgot but most of the time I was pretty good about it. In any case, I have not had any of the corrosion mentioned in some of the reviews. I was an aircraft electrician for many years, so I know corrosion. Maybe the others received shorts with a bad batch of stainless steel; but it has been two months and I have had no corrosion issues. The shorts themselves were very useful and the big pockets and "D" rings are SOOO handy! The seat has a non-skid rubber on them; when scuba diving, sitting on the side of the boat and waiting to fall backwards into the water, you stay in one place and feel no slippage. The pockets expand by loosening the velcro on each side of the pocket. When not carrying large items in the pockets, the velcro keeps the pocket flattened so it doesn't cause drag in the water (great feature). All-in-All the shorts are great, if you can get the correct size. Give them a try but if they seem like they may be a bit large or small, return immediately. Good luck and enjoy!

Great option to add some pockets
This item is a great way to add some additional pockets to your scuba setup especially is you are diving with backplate and wing. The zippers on the pockets can be a bit challenging to open with one hand underwater at first but once you do it enough times it is not a problem. I really like to small plastic D rings inside of the pockets. Those small D rings allow you to use a double ended boltsnap to secure what items you put in the pockets.

Ehh.. disappointed in the quality.
Ive never had tec shorts before, so i dont jave much to compare these to. They came nice and i was happy with the order, but when i used them i was disappointed that the pocket ripped open. I ised the D ring to open the velcro pocked to collect some clams.. when i was done, i noticed that the small little zipper pocket was torn wide open. I might return them, i might just ride it out.. not sure yet. Theyre good shorts for the price considering how much money other tec shorts cost, i just wish they were more durable seeing as how they were still 50 bucks.

Mesurements are not correct
I tried the mesurements with the table and give me an Xl, once i receive it it was too big for me.The metal parts oxidize it with seawater. I’m Scuba diving instructor so not good for that. Pockets are big.

Huge pockets
Perfect addition for scuba diving tropical waters. Huge pockets, light weight so glad I had fornthe Redsea diving.

Handy
Work great. Order size that corresponds to your suit size. Im always leery about getting things too small. I’m a 3xl. Ordered a 4xl...too big. But belts tightens them up nice.

Rusted After a 40 Minute Dive
I should have heeded the other reviews which said the metal grommets rust... sure enough, after 1 dive in freshwater it started to rust. Returned immediately

feels good
in order to simulate the wetsuit, i put this on with my pants. It is similar touch feeling as wetsuit, weight little bit lighter than the regulator+Octo+Gauge, opening on the both side, and two large pockets with very very secure closing, two secured O strips in each pocket, so you can use d-ring to secured things inside. The pocket is large, in my opinion, it can fit a normal size Ipad easily, and both pocket can be expand into more than double size, you can fit most mask case inside even you R+O+G.A zipper pocket on the lip of each pocket, big enough for a regular smart phone.I wear around 34/32 in Canada, sometime 35/32 or 36/32, it fit my tight enough but no stress on my body, generally, it fit like wetsuit but little bit loss fit than that.

Good fit over a dry suit, too much Velcro on the pocket flaps.
The product was as advertised the fit over my dry suit was tight but still functional. As I am very aware of my buoyancy I was a bit worried that I would need to adjust my weight system. After making a shallow dive it turned out I didn’t need any weight adjustments. The pants were well made and I’m sure I’ll get good service from them. The one criticism I have (and its minor) the Velcro pocket flaps were difficult to open with my dry suit gloves. A little less Velcro would be my suggestion for a fix.

Nice design in a functional product.
This is good design for adding tech pockets to be worn over a wetsuit for scuba. Pockets are ample and items are easily accessible. Some seams in the pocket flaps began detaching immediately, rendering the zip compartments in the flaps useless, and the grommets began rusting immediately. Otherwise the shorts have been durable through their first 20 dives.

Open slits on waist
Kinda wishing I bought the basic version. Not a fan of the open sides of the upgraded version. Didn't notice that originally when I ordered. Still work great.
