very, VERY pleased with this nice cool toned brown
The media could not be loaded. Purchased 4.0 Dark BrownFor the longest time I used a natural hair colorant and then one day it did not seem to get the deep brown shade that I longed for. I am 43 years old and my once medium brown hair is probably 50% grey from age, stress, and pain. I started dabbling in other brands and this is the first time I have tried Garnier Olia.I must say I am very happy with the color. The brown is cool toned which is what I need. I guess you would call me a "cool winter" as far as color. I run between pale skin in the winter to a medium skin tone in the summer with pink undertones. I have grey eyes. I look good in colors such as black, blue-red, deep purple, just about all blues, etc.I colored my hair a few days ago and when rinsing it out. I just used conditioner. I find this helps the color sit and take longer. I then washed it 2 days later with a mild shampoo followed by conditioner. In the last number of days, I have actually gotten a number of compliments on my hair, which, it has been a long time since that happened. I used to get compliments all the time, but as I got older it slowly stopped. Now that I have gone back darker, THIS seems to be my shade and, I am going to stick with it for awhile.I have hair that is past my waist and this whole kit seemed to cover my roots and actually do my entire head with a pretty even color. I think, it you wanted a more uniform, deep color and your hair is super long, perhaps a bottle and a half to two? I was actually happy with the one bottle.I have never paid to have my hair colored. I have always done it myself. It is so easy these days. This brand did not seem to damage my hair. Since it is long and I am 'older' I am pretty particular about my hair products. I follow my washes with Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil and usually something by Living Proof and then I sleep on it all overnight. I wash at night to let my hair pick up some natural oils since my hair is normal to dry in nature. Using this hair color did not change my hair texture, if anything, it feels a little better, a little less frizzy at the ends. This is good.Overall ... I will be purchasing this brand and this color again. Very pleased. Please see the video for before and afters. I think I probably had an inch of grey grown out and my previous color and brand had faded a lot.

5.3 Medium Golden Brown - what to expect with GOLDEN shades on auburn undertones
I'm writing this review for two reasons. Firstly, it's a really great product, great coverage, much less harsh than L'Oreal and Clairol, way better coverage for stubborn gray and uneven tones, pleasantly scented in comparison to the rotten eggs sulfur smells of the other brands. The smell on your hair does not linger. Generous after color care conditioner.Secondly, I'm going to explain a little bit about colors/tones. IF your hair has a tendency to pick up on red tones, if it looks a bit orange when you remove color, IF you have that natural auburn undertone in your hair color then ANYTHING that has GOLDEN or MAHOGANY in the title will make your hair turn quite reddish. If this is the effect you are looking for than choose the Golden shades. But keep in mind that it will never make your hair Golden, it will always make it more reddish. However, if you are looking to tone down the red tones in your hair, go for a more ASH color or a true color that does not have Golden in the title. I bought this knowing that it would give my medium brown hair with natural auburn undertones a rich reddish tone. I was prepared for that. Will I keep it this way? Not sure yet! The actual tone and color is just gorgeous. It looks rich and deep and has incredible shine. But I'll need to fool around with it a bit-- try some different looks, styles, or makeup colors-- I usually only wear a little face powder to control shine, a honey lip balm, and a little mascara, I'm very natural and not into heavy makeup so I need to see if this reddish tone will work on my complexion without needing to wear foundation. If I were to tone down the red, I would go for the 5.0 Medium Brown and leave that on for around 40 minutes, (30 never works for me), I would cover my roots first and then the remainder of the hair last, so that my roots are getting 40 mins and the hair is getting at least 25 minutes. If you have hair that is past the shoulders, use 2 boxes. More is always better. You want the hair to be completely saturated and not stiff and dry - this will cause patchiness in the areas where the hair is not penetrated completely. Hope this helps! Also, using a protein filler before you color and leaving that in can also assist in even coverage but it's not necessary unless you have recently bleached (went lighter) as it helps to fill in the bleached out hair.

Leaves hair nice and soft, color lasts
In a quest to find a less damaging product than L'Oreal Feria, I randomly picked up Olia, hoping the oil-based dye would help. It did! I should start off by saying that I have quite a lot of grey hair, which has a distinctly wiry texture, unlike the rest of my thick naturally brown hair. I'm looking for coverage and softness. Here are my likes and dislikes:Likes:* I've only ever used Feria, and I was shocked by how nice my hair felt after coloring, and it's stayed soft after more than two weeks. I'll never return to Feria!* This comment falls under like/dislike -- the product is VERY thick, and I was nervous I wouldn't have enough to finish covering my past-shoulder-length hair. I ended up skimping on the ends b/c of that. I just barely made it. I'd suggest being conservative on the roots so you have enough to finish. I do like how easy it is to apply b/c of the thickness.* It's been over two weeks and my color has barely faded, which is GREAT! Except my greys are growing out in a stark strip -- LOL! I'll take it over the massive fade of Feria (why did I stay with it for so long?).Dislikes:* I think it's wasteful to have two product bottles AND a mixing bottle. Why not include product in the mixing bottle and save a little plastic, like Feria does?* Color is nice, but darker than expected, and since the color really sticks, it doesn't lighten/fade like Feria* The color is also fairly one-dimensional/flat. It's not *bad*, just...there.Bottom line, this is a surprisingly nice color. Now that I've stretched my legs on switching brands, I'm going to try a few others, but if they don't leave my hair feeling nice and soft, I'll be coming back to Olia!
