Got this as a Christmas gift from my brother in 2019. It's the best practical present I've ever received. I've never used for hiking but I have used it as carry-on and for road trips. If you use packing cubes, you can easily fit a week's worth of stuff in here (clothes, toiletries, electronics, etc). The zippers, straps and buckles are high quality, especially for the price. Here's what I love: There are compression straps inside and outside of the bag. Perfect for helping to smoosh down your stuff and fitting it into an overhead bin or trunk. The waist and chest straps. It helps to distribute the weight and take the pressure off your shoulders and back. You may not look super cool but your body will thank you. The expansion capabilities. The top and bottom of the bag expand separately. I've learned if I need to use this feature I expand the bottom first. It helps to balance the load (as opposed to expanding the top first) and yields a surprising amount of room. The interior pockets and loops. In the video, they put tools in the interior loops. I use them to store my phone/device cords. The fabric is heavy and I haven't had a problem with seams ripping in a year and a half. Seams are overlayed with plastic. I have an Irish Setter who loves to pick up my empty backpack, run around, step on it and shake it (they're not the smartest breed). Other than drool marks, the bag is fine. No punctures, snags or rips. One (small) con: I wish it had a built-in rain cover. I was not compensated in any way for this review. The bag was a gift from my thoughtful brother. TLDR; Great quality, lots of space, easy to lug around. Buy it. You won't regret it.

Item is 5 stars 1 star is for Amazon's Quality Control.I chose to purchase a returned backpack without original box to save 3 dollars but did not realize it had been used and still contained garbage and a dime. Very disappointed in Amazon's Quality Control. I'm grossed out about what may have been in it before. Also the zipper was stuck on the canvas when received. Photo shows after I unstuck it. The plastic belt clips appear to show some wear. I don't want to return it. I just wish it was clean. Mark

Amazing how many suckers like me get lured into buying this pack because of the word "military'. Anyone in the the US Military would be ROTFL if they saw this pack. The zipper split just outside of the return time, so we had to buy plan B. Well, we never threw it away and our kid brought it out not remembering the issue it had. So we recreated the problem and then promptly threw it the trash where it belongs!

First of all the delivery came 1 week before expected date. The bag is what I was expecting. The only suggestion is to make the bottle holding pocket a little bit wider so it can hold 1 liter of bottle as well although it can hold aregular 600ml bottle.

Very decent backpack, the material, details, variety of pockets...the impression you have is that is done to last.
