Phyllostachys Bissetii is a very cold hardy vigorous grower with dark gray-green canes for screening. Originally imported from Sichuan, China into the US in the 1941 by David Bisset, from whom it was named after. This species is well equipped to handle a vast range of growing conditions from climates in USDA zone 5 to 10. As with most bamboo species, Bissetii is less picky about soil and sunlight conditions than many plants. Even during severe winters this little bamboo, once established, will pop up beautiful new canes in the early spring long before other plants even turn green. Mature culms are erect and usually in the 25 to 30 feet height range, but depends on climate zone. Has a very dense dark green foliage making it an excellent choice for privacy and windbreaks. We have thousands of customers throughout northern climate zones growing this little beauty for an effective privacy screen. . In USDA Climate Zone 7+ expect mature size canes to 30'-40' feet in height. In USDA Climate Zone 6 expect mature size canes to be 18' feet in height. In USDA Climate Zone 5 expect mature size canes to be 12' feet in height.

I'm happy
Arrived pretty fast, very well protected. I bought the 2 gallon and one stalk was about 5' tall. It had 2 smaller ones as well. Overall looks healthy. It came with a thick chunk of bamboo to use as a stake - very nice. Planted well, no shock. It was hot out so I gave it a shade tent for the first week.Only problem was a few chewed leaves I removed immediately. I saw no bugs.I was nervous never having ordered a plant I couldn't look at first. But I'm happy. In fact, I did NOT get bamboozled so I also ordered a Unique Cold Hardy Screening Bamboo - Spectabilis for the other side of the house.*update* still real happy. Bamboo looks great, lots of new shoots. I'm going to mulch it well for the winter.

Sometimes when I type my palms sweet abnormally
This was one 2-3ft order. It has grown and spread a little bit in its new home here in Colorado. No issues at all and seems to be doing well. Will buy more next year if it survives the winter.Update. Doing great after several snow storms! Will definitely purchase more in the spring.

Single stem plant ... not as pictured!!!
I figured the order would be for one of those potted root balls with TWO stems, as pictured in the seller’s photos.I ordered two plants and got two tiny root balls with a SINGLE stem each. Very disappointed.Plants were well packaged and look reasonably healthy.UPDATE: after talking with the folks at Lewis Bamboo, they made sure that I got multi-stalked specimen in my follow-up order. The new plants look very nice and are exactly what I expected the first time around. I am updating my star rating to 4 ... the plants and customer service deserve 5 stars, but the fact that I had to jump through hoops to get plants that looked as nice as they were originally advertised was not a great experience.

exceptionally nice bamboo!
this is an exceptional "specimen" of 5-6ft+ bamboo! | update, 27oct17 - still growing strong & full |specific observations; • very well packaged and protected • very specific, easy-to-follow planting instructions • much about "what to expect" regarding growth and performance • received on time and better than expected! ... an excellent item and harvester!it is mostly ~ 6 ft high with 2-3 stalks at that 5 - 6 ft height, plus a shorter shoot or two...we are between zones 5 & 6, so we are just a little south of it's cold hardiness zone. as such, we anticipate it to thrive very well in our zone…we planted it, according to the instructions above on the item detail page, in a thick 20+ gallon pot, ... it provides privacy or coverage of something unattractive, and it is a gorgeous plant, one to really celebrate as a specimen piece. attached below are a few pics - note for size reference; the pot is 2 ft high with a 20" diameter… also, though the top of the bamboo is currently leaning over, when it is held straight up, the peak of the foliage on the tallest shoot exceeds the gutters by ~ 2 ft.• bottom line; what you see is what you get and more, so it is well worth the $. again, we are so pleased and what we received so greatly exceeded our expectations!Thank you.

Very Healthy Plants
I’ve waited a couple of months to post a review of this product. I wanted to wait and see how the bamboo held up. First, the bamboo all showed up very healthy and even larger than I expected. Second, after planting they have really taken off and continue to be healthy. I’m very satisfied with this purchase and will be ordering more in the future!

One stick
The tree is tall and seems very healthy, just thought I would have gotten more than one stalk or branch?? I planted in a planter with the special dirt and fertilizer mixture before I stick it in the ground. I'll update when I see the runners start to sprout.

Don't worry. It is shipped beautifully!
This is a beautiful plant.it was shipped carefully and arrived in beautiful condition! A non invasive ( clump root and not risome) bamboo. I'm using it in my linai that's under heat and air as a houseplants! I'll probably buy more for my backyard.

Way healthier than expected for a shipped plant!
Remember - these are small starters. Very well potted, and acclimated rather easily. Shipping was impressive to say the least. Take your time unwrapping.
