With no way to leave, Tricia begins exploring the house and discovers Dr. Hale’s old therapy tapes. As Tricia listens to them, she uncovers disturbing secrets about Adrienne’s life, her patients, and her mysterious disappearance. The deeper she digs, the more unsettling truths come to light — not only about Adrienne but also about Ethan, forcing Tricia to question the man she’s about to marry. The story twists and unravels in chilling ways, leading to shocking revelations about deception, hidden pasts, and survival.👥 Character BreakdownTricia – The protagonist. Newly married, cautious, and slightly anxious, but also resourceful. She’s determined to uncover the truth behind the tapes she finds in the abandoned mansion. Her perspective shapes most of the story.Ethan – Tricia’s husband, initially supportive and protective, but as secrets are uncovered, his character becomes increasingly suspicious and layered with hidden motives.Dr. Adrienne Hale – A brilliant but controversial psychiatrist who mysteriously disappeared. Though absent, she is central to the story through her therapy recordings and the dark history of her house.Supporting Patients (on tapes) – Adrienne’s former patients whose confessions reveal disturbing insights into her practice, her life, and eventually connect back to the central mystery.🎭 Themes of the BookDeception & Secrets – The novel thrives on lies — between couples, within families, and even professional boundaries. Every character harbors truths waiting to be exposed.Trust & Betrayal – A major theme is how fragile trust is, especially between partners. Tricia’s journey is as much about unraveling Adrienne’s mystery as it is about reassessing her own relationship.Isolation & Survival – The storm and the locked mansion amplify feelings of entrapment, forcing characters into confrontations with themselves and each other.Psychological Manipulation – Both Adrienne’s therapy sessions and Ethan’s behavior highlight the dangers of control, gaslighting, and psychological power.Identity & Hidden Pasts – The narrative examines how people conceal parts of their identity, sometimes to protect, sometimes to manipulate, and how those hidden pasts always resurface.📌 Quotes from the BookSome houses remember the people who lived in them. It’s the lies we tell ourselves that are the hardest to escape. The silence in the house is so heavy it feels like it’s pressing against my chest.Every locked door has a reason for being locked.Sometimes the people closest to us are the ones we should fear the most.📝 In ConclusionNever Lie by Freida McFadden is a chilling psychological thriller that blends isolation, deception, and shocking revelations into a story you won’t forget. With its snow-covered mansion setting, unreliable relationships, and jaw-dropping twists, it’s the perfect pick for fans who love being kept on edge until the very last page. This book reminds us that sometimes the greatest danger isn’t the storm outside — but the secrets hidden behind closed doors.Rating ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Absolutely brilliant
Freida McFadden's novel, "Never Lie," opens with the newlyweds Tricia and Ethan embarking on a journey to view a house in the midst of a snowstorm. The house, once owned by a murdered psychiatrist, becomes the setting for an unexpected night of revelations as they find themselves snowed in without cell phone service. Exploring the house, Tricia stumbles upon a secret room filled with cassette tapes, setting off a chain of discoveries that expose a web of lies.Having read a few novels from Freida McFadden, after "The Housemaid", I moved through her work relatively quickly. "Never Lie" characterized by its entertainment value and swift pacing, held my attention, and I completed it within a short time. The narrative unfolds through two perspectives—Tricia and Dr. Adrienne Hale—alternating between past and present seamlessly. While the storytelling is adept, I found it challenging to connect with Tricia, whose thought processes often seemed more akin to a teenager than someone in their mid-twenties. Her romanticized views of her husband's care and dinner preparations felt obsessive and immature. Conversely, Ethan's character resonated with me, portraying maturity and level-headedness. Dr. Adrienne Hale, despite her mature demeanor, appeared somewhat peculiar, making it difficult for me to warm up to her. Ultimately, by the end of the book, I found myself disliking all the characters except one.The novel's strength lies in its masterful planting of red herrings, keeping readers guessing about the motive and identity of the killer. Twists and turns abound, and while my predictions were off base, I correctly identified a patient's deception about their life.In summary, "Never Lie" by Freida McFadden is an enjoyable read, deserving of four out of five stars.

A good thriller
When Trisha and Ethan, newly weds, go to view their dream house set in the middle of nowhere, they get stranded by bad weather. The house is huge and truly spooky. Trisha is nervous, especially when it appears they will have to spend the night there.Strange noises, objects being moved, the house gets more and more spooky as we progress with the story. What terrible secrets does this house whose ex owner, Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who mysteriously disappeared , hold? The story goes back and forth between present and past. In the present, we share Trisha and Ethan’s scary time in the house, whilst in the past, we learn about Dr. Adrienne Hale, her psychiatrist and disturbed patients, her love life…No one is quite what the reader would expect and there are numerous twists.I enjoyed the story but only up to a point. There were almost too many twists and they were not all credible. I did not enjoy this book as much as others from the same author, but an enjoyable read nevertheless.
