Q: How large is this plant?

Ships at 2 feet or so but grows big and kept 6’ by pruning.

Q: Will this plant survive in Tennessee, I believe we’re in zone 7?

Based on the following links it should do okay, just be a bit careful about above or below normal temps. I keep mine in the house (there are still pretty small) so that is easy. https://www.mygardenlife.com/plant-library/4263/michelia/alba https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/planting-zones/tennessee-planting-zones.htm One thing to be careful of is how long it spend in the mail system (try and get as fast a delivery as possible), and if it needs to be shipped bare rooted (no soil due to border regulations) I would recommend getting some Super Thrive and rooting hormone (the gel type works best for this next part). As soon as you get the plant, spray the bare roots with water containing the Super Thrive and Rooting Hormone, pot the plant in soil and soak the soil with the rest of the water mixture. Make sure the pot has good drainage and add a 1/2 inch or so layer of small pebbles or gravel to the bottom to also help with drainage. Most of these plants available are grafted onto a hardier root stock so keep the soil moist but not too wet. Good drainage should make sure the soil doesn't get too wet (get a pot where you will need a tray under the pot and when the tray dries out it's time to water the plant again). I hope you enjoy the plant, it's really quite pretty and the flower are really nice.

Q: What is the minimum space needed for this plant to grow and mature in a container? i am in san diego, ca. is the weather too warm or too dry for it?

California weather would be good fit. When the temperature is below 50 degrees, protect it. Get a 5 gallon grow pot and move to 7 or 10 as it grows. Most plants produce flower same season.
