Rancilio HSD-BS50 Base for Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine/Rocky Grinder

This high quality stainless product is the perfect mate for Rocky and Silvia. Making perfect espresso is a messy process and this stand keeps the loose bits and pieces within a confined area. One drawer slides out as a knock box for Silvia complete with removable oak striker. The other is a convenient place to sweep coffee detritus from Rocky. Great simple Italian design, beautifully executed. I would expect nothing less from this excellent company. Grazie , Rancilio!

Very well constructed, durable and attractive. I can't find a fault with it. I actually use it for my Gaggia classic and Gaggia grinder. They fit perfectly. The storage drawers are very convenient.

See ^^The base is perfect for the Silvia and the Rocky. The two drawers hold all my accessories, cleaning supplies, and scale, bottomless portafilter, several baskets. My only fret is that water stains are gradually developing on the surface, especially under the 3-way valve of the Silvia. Not a terrible bother, but I feel the surface could be more durable.

Drawer guides are low budget bent metal. All metal edges (drawer face, bent lip, drawer opening, etc.) I touched felt like unfinished rough cut. The hardwood knockbar appears would be more functional if not mounted on the drawer bottom.

I have both the Silvia and a grinder sitting on the base. It works well enough to organize you tools. Has a worthless knock box, I do not use it for that purpose. It is good enough for storing the tamping mat, spoons and thermometer. Not big enough to hold your tamp. This will not if under most cabinets with the machine on it. I have it sitting out on a bar. I wish it was a little more rigged in the center, seems like it is flexing a bit under the weight. It appears to be all hand made.

The base has lots of room to store plenty of coffee gear. I took out the knockbox rod and use for more space. I keep cleaning supplies, filter baskets, tamp mat, etc. in the drawers. The base has a piece of stainless steel between the drawers to keep the middle from sagging with heavy equipment. My only issue is that the drawer's folded edges can get very sharp. Some sanding would have been nice.

This was fulfilled by JL Hufford when we ordered. On arrival looks nice, works well and seems ideal but after 3 years of use the spot welds on one side of the knockbox drawer detached and just weeks after we had the one side re-welded now the other side has detached. Rancilio says 1 year warranty and neither JL Hufford nor Rancilio will stand by the product so it’s back to the welder. Terrible that the product outright fails and neither the retailer or manufacturer will stand by the product. They say it’s expected wear and tear but I say it’s an expensive piece of crap.Update 2/2021: months after we had the other side re-welded the welds failed again. I reached out to Rancilio again and the expectation seems to be that you replace the whole base after it fails or you keep getting it welded because they don’t sell a replacement knockbox drawer and they won’t offer anything else because it’s out of warranty... even though the welds have completely failed.
