Operation Blue Star the True Story (English)

Sit with an open heart and read the book.
For the book- While a majority of Sikhs may find even taking the name of Lt. Gen. Brar blasphemous, but his account does count for an open hearted reading. Though it contains more of a military perspective and less of the overall picture, it does give you an idea of what happened, if we believe Lt. Gen. Brar that is. This should be read by future generations of Sikhs and Hindus (like me) to see that no one drives a wedge anymore between the two historically linked communities. The recent issues of Farmer protests, the 'need' for creation of a new district in Punjab has been used for such purposes. The seeds for a larger discontent among Sikhs rise from the disintegration of the Sikh empire and subsequent events that followed in the 1880s, 1920s and the partition. This was heavily read into by the then politicians and they only let events precipitate into this unfortunate event called 'Op Blue Star'. Lt Gen. Brar gives the best he can. However he has gone all out against the Akalis and has hardly criticised Congress. Also, his English is quite appreciable. In astronomy, there is something called a 'blue (giant) star' in a star's life cycle. It is rare and a short lived phenomenon that soon transforms into its next phase. The 1984 operation was similar. Such things are rare too and will never happen again.Lessons must be learned without scratching the historical wounds and hearts must be healed.P.S. This is the last copy on the net currently and I am very grateful that I could find one. It must be published more. For the seller - Please write "used-good" and not "new" when you sell something that has been used but is in a new like condition.

Tells it as it is!
The general tells the story as it is! Book starts with little bit of political background, which is essential to understand the root cause of problem. Law and order situation in Punjab had collapsed with free run for bhindranwale, who was literally running an alternate govt from amritsar. Any opposition was simply slaughtered. Most part of the book narrates the operation which is simply horrifying with its complexity and loss of human life! The defenses were laid out by the military mind Gen Shabeg Singh for bhindranwale which pushed the Army to a tooth and nail battle for survival and neutralizing the militants. Gen Brar also narrates the difficult restrictions imposed on Army during the battle. And many myths and falsehoods are debunked which were circulated by reporters for their own publicity, post the operation. In essence, this operation should have been a political battle which Army had to fight. And unfortunately, Army is bearing the consequences of a PR war which is waged on it by the hardliners.

Eye opener
Everything about this book is perfect . The circumstances that lead the operation are logically explained. Every Indian should read this to get their facts right rather than believing in hearsay . Kudos 👍👍

Bhindrawale and the political scene of Punjab is very beautifully explained. English is on the decorative side
Rise of J.S. Bhindrawale and the political scene of Punjab is very beautifully explained. English is on the decorative side. Strategy and reasons behind it explained in a good manner. Must read if 1984 has intrigued you.

This is the real deal! Read it for your own good.
I stand in solidarity with the decisions taken by the Centre and the Army Chiefs. This book has helped me cleared my clouded thoughts. Dividing a sovereign nation is a thought that provokes disgust in my mind and I'm sure will in every responsible Indian citizen. This book is a must read, to know how unjustly our Army was treated, wrongly the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi among others was assassinated and how easily the youth was led astray.

Excellent read and important historical unbiased facts! facts
The truth about what really happened from the man who led the operations. Read without a biased mind, put yourself in his shoes, be him and then ask yourself how would you have fone it differently. An excellent read, gripping content.Given it 4stars as the quality of print and paper is poor. For such an important book in the annals of history, it deserves a superior print quality. Otherwise its 5stars for content. Thank you Lt Gen Brar for enlightening us.

Dies ist keine Rezension !!!
Liebe Leute. dies ist keine Rezension: was erwartet Ihr eigentlich? Wie soll ich einen Tag nach der Lieferung ein Urteil über ein Buch abgeben? Schöner Einband - sieht toll aus? So geht das nicht, oder zumindest nicht mit mir.

Well written. Excellent account of what happened.
Well written account of events which took place prior, during and after the events of 1984.I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a truthful account of those events.Bhindranwale tasked killer squads inside the hostel complex and accrued an arsenal of arms inside the Temple complex. Bhindranwale and his coterie not only killed innocent Hindus but also moderate Sikhs who opposed him.

A soldier's view
Lt.Gen. Kuldeep Brar accomplished the most thankless assignment in the history in modern India. The Indian army was never proud of Operation Bluestar and Lt.Gen. Brar, being a Sikh himself hated the fact that army was ordered to fight it's own people. Most experts were critical of the army action but was there any other option left in dealing with the menace posed by Bhindranwale. Why was Bhindrenwale allowed to occupy and live in the Akal Takht along with his fanatic followers with automatic weapons, grenades etc. The holiest shrine was turned into a military bunker and none of the head priests or supporters came out against this desecration. Even a country like Saudi Arabia in 1979 used military force during the bloody two week seige of the Grand Mosque in Mecca against its armed Islamic dissidents. This book is an eye opener to all the exagerated accounts and rumouring that came out after the operation. This book has to be evaluated pragmatically though its hard no not dwell on this incident without emotion. The whole Punjab militancy problem that was a creation of an incompetant, corrupt and indecisive government & civil administration; Lt.Gen. Brar and the Indian army soldiers who gave up their lives only performed their duty towards the nation. By rejecting militancy and seperatists ideals emanating from a few Sikhs in western countries, the Sikhs of India have redeemed themselves as the most patriotic and progressive communty.
