What kind of steel is used for the blade?

It looks like high carbon steel, not stainless. The key ring hole is part of the blade and is blackened, probably during the hand smithing of the blade.

blade is 1.5 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide. if TSA is doing their job correctly, you will not be able to carry this on a flight. dont be an idiot, just check any weapons and avoid having to leave it with them. remember in 9.11 they used simple boxcutters, this is far more a weapon than a boxcutter, even with the blade being at such small sizes...
