101 Three-Chord Hymns & Gospel Songs for Guitar, Banjo & Uke

Easy hymns for banjos
Nearly everything is written for guitars, but this book is easy for banjos and ukeleles, too. I'm a beginner banjo player so I can't play very many songs in regular books, but I can do a few things with chords. This is a pretty good book with only 3 chords to play, so if you've mastered them, you can play anything in the book. One problem is that some of the songs don't sound right with only 3 chords, so if you know a few more, you can dress them up a little.Since I started out learning tabulature, I didn't know how to play from notes on a regular music staff, and this helps me learn them. It tells you what string and fret the beginning note to play for the beginning note so that helps a lot. Another problem is I don't know half of the songs in the book so I'm going to get another instrument I know how to play to do the melody first so I know how the tune goes. The book has words for all the songs, and sometimes more than one verse so it's fun for sing-a-longs. Anyone who can play chords can play this book, so it's fun. And the songs are alphabetically arranged so if you are trying to find a specific song, you don't have to look at the table of contents.

The autoharp is the closest thing to the harp in the Bible
Anyone who can read the ABCs can play autoharp and help their church out with the music when the musicians cannot be there. This is also wonderful for children who want to compose music like Dolly Parton who composed with her autoharp. The app on a phone can be the tuner that helps the autoharpist tune, and compose. Many churches do not have enough music for children. Many churches do not realize that an autoharp is biblical and the sound of a harp is not made with a piano. The harp is in heaven.

Three Chords--One Key
The strength of this book lies in its inclusion of 100 complete gospel songs as well as the complete melody line for each song. Unfortunately every song is presented in the Key of G with the advice to use a capo in order to change keys. And then there is a little chart showing where to put the capo in order to get to the different keys. How sad! It would have been far better, at least in my view, to use four or five different keys (all requiring only three chords). This would have made the book far more valuable for beginners. The idea of simplicity is commendable, but simple-mindedness is not. If there had been, say, sixty songs with ten songs each in the same key, then the beginning singer/player could have learned six different keys instead of only one and could still use a capo without its being such a stretch if a song needs to be sung in the Key of C or D. For beginning guitar players,I would recommend getting this book, even with my reservations, as long as they also add another one to it.

More Awesome 101!!!
I LOVE this book! The songs are oldies and goodies, many I remember my mother singing when I was a child. I love the simpicity of the songs, the arrangement, and the fact that I can worshipfully play them. My children play the guitar, harmonica, accordion and penny whistle, while I play the uke. All of us can play and sing these songs together! My Mom bought this book as well, and is practicing the songs on her guitar, uke and hammer dulcimer so that we can all play when we get together! What an awesome book to bring family together!

Very Simple Written
Since I am just now learning to play the guitar....I had downloaded a lot of songs with the guitar chords so I could learn better to play, but I didn't realize I didn't have the timing for them....some it is okay cause I can learn from hearing the song and some I have know all my life. Having it written so simple in this book it really has helped to keep the beat as I learn to strum. Thanks

really liked the Kindle edition, think I'm going to love the hard copy
I bought the Kindle edition for my iPad. as a grandmother who is teaching herself guitar, there's so many songs that I can play right off the bat. I think I'm going to buy the Hard copy book. I have enjoyed this, but wish I had a larger copy than what's on my Kindle.

If you want to be able to play along with ...
If you want to be able to play along with other musicians right away, and have the ability to play chords at all, this book will suit you well. That is, it will work as long as you can get the other musicians to play in the key of G. Most hymnals do not have these songs in the key of G.If you want a book to teach you how to play, this is not the one.

Simple fun if tune is known.
Good but only if you know the hymns because only 4/5 known to me and it's more difficult if you don't know the tune. Guess many are American in origin and not so common here in Britain.

Simple to understand
Very good for beginners. Clear and concise. A good selection of hymn tunes, although two or three were unfamiliar. Recommended.
