Miracle gadget!
I've seen this thing in various articles for months, but always assumed it would be a hassle having yet another kitchen gadget clogging up space in the drawers. You know what else is a hassle? Having to carefully use a sharp knife to slice open an avocado, then wrestle with the pit for a few minutes, bust out a spoon to scoop out the flesh, then - finally - use that sharp knife to carefully and messily cut the avocado into slices. So I finally pulled the trigger and bought this puppy, and I'm so glad I did. Now I grab ONE thing out of the drawer and use it to easily accomplish all of the above. Just the part that removes the pit saves me enough time and trouble to warrant the purchase. It's solidly built, cute as can be, does all the jobs it's supposed to, easily, is simple to wash up afterward, and it almost certainly costs less than almost every other kitchen gadget you own. Not to mention it kind of looks like a little parrot. Don't be a dummy like me; buy one now. You won't regret it.

Very useful!
I really like this tool! I make guacamole fairly often, which involves cutting up, slicing, and mashing of around 5 avocados. This tool makes it much faster and easier than just using a knife and spoon. You can cut, remove the core, scoop out, and slice; all with one tool. When making guacamole, it also makes it much easier to mash avocados that have already been sliced, so this tool just saves a lot of time and makes everything easier. I have 2 things that I would recommend to improve this item. 1. The cutting blade needs to be slightly longer, avocados can drastically vary in size. This blade is too short for avocados on the larger end. 2. Again, since avocados range in size, the slicer/scooper isn’t going to fit all avocados very precisely. I have used an avocado slicer/scooper before that had flexible sides, which allowed you to more effectively cut/scoop different size avocados. If this tool had a longer blade and flexible sides on the slicer/scooper end, it would be perfect. I give it 4 stars because there are a couple things I would like to see improved. Here’s my (secret) guac recipe: 5 ripe Avocados (mashed) 1 can Rotel tomatoes with chilies (completely drained) These come in mild, original, and hot; so you can control the spiciness of the guac by choosing the corresponding tomatoes with chilis. 1 lime, completely juiced (pulp is good too) 1 full bushel of cilantro (chopped fine). Make sure it is washed thoroughly as it seems cilantro will hold on to dirt/sand. Herb scissors really help with cilantro prep: http://www.amazon.com/RSVP-SNIP-Herb-Scissors/dp/B000TYKWMI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408712894&sr=8-1&keywords=herb+scissors ½ red onion (chopped fine) Salt and pepper to taste. I have discovered there is no such thing as too much pepper. Salt also helps bring out the flavor of the avocados. Just mash everything together with a potato masher. I bring this to potlucks and make it at home and it always goes fast! Please comment if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer : )

Is it worth the purchase?
Well that depends on your perspective of need vs. want and how often you eat avocados. For our family, this device replaces three tools (large knife for seed removal, small knife for slicing avocado inside skin, and large spoon for scooping out the avocado meat). It can be daunting to have to maneuver and clean this many tools every single time we eat an avocado, and for us it is almost daily. Finding this 3-in-1 tool by Oxo made me giddy; but, left me wondering if it were more of a gimmick than a tool. I took the plunge and purchased it solely on the reputations of Oxo as a developer of intuitive, well-made kitchen utensils and Amazon's solid return policy should this item be ineffective for my needs. This investment has paid off. Right out of the package I could feel the durability and stout structure of the utensil. I have small hands and find this tool to be a bit big for my handling; but, the more I use it the more I adapt, and the more impressed I become with it's ingenuity. The end that cuts through the avocado skin, although a thick plastic, penetrates the avocado skin like softened butter. The seed extraction blades worried me at first as they are blunt with no sharp ends; however, they sink into avocado seeds with great ease. Releasing the seed from it's blading counterparts is no longer a dangerous activity for myself or the sink. As for the slicing spooned end of this tool: the plastic is stout and stronger than well-made plastic butter knives and is definitely better quality than a similar device I purchased made by Cook's; inserting the spooned end, slicing, then scooping is easy enough as the plastic cuts through the avocado meat like softened butter. The only issue I have ran into is dealing with stem strings that come through the stem into the avocado meat; but, I feel that this issue is more of a learning curve in use of this tool than a reflection on the tool itself. As for cleaning, prevention is always the best bet, simply rinse the entire utensil off directly after using it and you will avoid the headache of dried avocado meat stuck in small crevices. With regards to product improvement... at this point in time I see none to be had. Time will tell as to the longevity of this tool. A stainless steel version (18:8 or 18:10) would be splendid; but, until such is placed on the market, I will continue to revel in the ingenuity of this existing avocado tool and remain appreciative to Oxo for their intuitive creativity!

SIMPLE AND USEFUL AVOCADO SLICER
Simple but so much of a great 3-1 product which has made cutting up an avocado a breeze (no chopped off or sliced fingers!), good deal for the money.

Minskar risken för skärskador pga av att knivseggen är av plast. Man bör dock ha klart för sig att den fungerar olika bra på olika storlekar av avokados.

I recently bought the Oxo Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer and I am very happy with my purchase. I had a big bag of avocados to handle and this tool made the process much easier and faster than using a knife and a spoon. It is quite an innovative product that splits, pits, and slices avocados in one go. The tool has a plastic blade that cuts through the avocado skin without being too sharp to hurt your fingers. The pitter has three metal prongs that grip and remove the pit with a simple twist. The slicer has a series of blades that create even slices of avocado flesh. The tool also has a soft-grip handle that makes it comfortable to use. The tool works great on large and medium size avocados that are not too hard and not too ripe. It keeps your hands cleaner and reduces the risk of injury. It also preserves the natural flavor and texture of the avocados. It is dishwasher safe and easy to clean. The only drawback is that the tool does not work as well on small avocados and very hard or too ripe/soft ones. The blade may not cut through the skin or the pitter may not grip the pit properly. The slicer may also mash the avocado instead of slicing it. You may need to use a knife or a spoon for these cases. Overall, I think this is a great tool for anyone who loves avocados and wants to prepare them quickly and safely. It is a bit pricey compared to other slicers, but it is worth it for the quality and functionality. I would recommend this product to my friends and family.

Pratique pour couper l’avocat en deux et enlever le noyau mais concernant l’ustensile pour faire des belles tranches c’est moins évident. L’avocat doit pas être trop mûr
