A Simple Favour Review
I love this movie. The mystery, drama and scandal alone was interesting. But the dynamic between Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick is fire. They both did an amazing job with their acting and the story is phenomenal, and excellently produced and written. Would recommend.

A simple bloody good film.
is a 2018 American black comedy thriller film directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell. The film stars Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Rupert Friend, and Jean Smart and follows a small-town blogger who tries to solve the disappearance of her mysterious and rich friend.A Simple Favor was released in the United States on September 14, 2018, by Lionsgate. Critics praised the plot twists and the performances of Kendrick and Lively. The film grossed $97 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.I missed this at the cinema and with a recommendation from Mr Kermode and a big fan of films with a twist I was intrigued by it and my first view came through an online streaming service one Sunday afternoon, being a fan of Anna Kendrick, I could not resist. I was not let down by a well-worked twist from the Hitchcock school of twists and this was soon added to my DVD collection.

A Simple Favour Ultra HD 4K HDR Disc and 1080p Disc
A very good film, and Anna Kendrick, adorable, with her happy approach towards presenting her online home made cooking show in the movie. And she wants to be nice to everyone, and ends up delving into a mystery. That's all I'm going to to say. You're going to have to buy it to find out the outcome of the mystery. Great picture quality in Ultra HD HDR. Ultra HD HDR equipment needed for the 4K Disc as In, TV/Ultra HD player / Xbox One S or latest model.

Anna Kendrink and Blake Lively - A Brilliant Combination in Such a Querky, Funny, Pacey Film!
These two leading ladies got lucky. Great script. Great characters and great pace. I loved this little gem. But I am puzzled why it was not a success. Maybe it is for this reason: a lot of films have weak titles but behind the boring title is a great story; a very entertaining and worthwhile story experience? A lazy or boring title prevents a story from getting to more people, what a shame! I don't know. Maybe this film should have been sold to a TV channel because it's a winner idea with sequel potential; that could introduce a new modern-day Miss Maple-type - perhaps if someone had thought of it? This is the type of film that in a movie house would get a short run. It's the title that lets it down; it is also probably the misrepresentation in sales and marketing terms. It may have been presented as a silly mystery-com - a shallow girly story - but this was a deep venture of a story. You have to become a golddigger to find a good film like this on Amazon or Netflix. I think it is all down to history. If you like the actors you follow them, that is one sure way. But this film, and many others with lazy or boring titles, would have more of a chance of it with better titles. This title means so little yet it has punch this script. And the two lead actors put in the effort and the fruits are compelling and darkly funny. Anna Kendrick, as usual, is up-beat, quirky and never disappoints. She is more reliable and fascinating and effective than Katies Holmes (and Diane Keaton) and Rachel McAdams (even though I did love MORNING GLORY). While Kendrick may appear to be a little similar to all three in her own sweet, funny way, Kendrick in this role has a dark and light side and displays all her great acting attributes and full-on constant energy. Yes, Kendrick has demonstrated more range since TWILIGHT. In THE ACCOUNTANT she was an unassuming but excellent foil to Ben Affleck; the scene on the sofa in the hotel room was deeply touching and romantic - brilliant, actually mostly because it is the first time I have seen Ben Affleck reveal an authentic depth of vulnerability in his acting repertoire. He does have the depth and skill which I wish more people would mine as he is a deeply talented actor. This scene I am talking about is only a short scene but it was worth it. I knew Ben Affleck had more to him than he reveals. Blake Lively is a natural beauty. Really a beauty but surprisingly she can act too which is a double portion for an actor. Like with Bradley Cooper; BURNT is his best so far, in my opinion. In A SIMPLE FAVOUR, the winning combination of Kendrick and Lively gives this seemingly murder-mystery story a tricky and exciting feel. Great casting. Good script. Worth watching for the twists and turns. Thank you cast and crew and writers.

Excellent movie with Hitchcockian and film noir elements to darkly delight!
Based on Darcey Bell's novel of the same name, A Simple Favor darkly delights from beginning to end with mystery and thrills reminiscent of Hitchcock and film noir elements. With a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer and direction from Paul Feig, mostly known for his comedies, A Simple Favor will enthrall audiences.Stephanie Smothers is a widowed mother to her young son Miles and trying to build a career as a mom vlogger while maintaining a positive attitude. One day after her son's school lets out, Stephanie meets and befriends Emily Nelson, a successful PR director for stylist Dennis Nylon and mother of Miles' friend Nicky. Stephanie and Emily become close as they share cocktails and chats after their sons are picked up from school each day. Emily sardonically reveals that she and her husband Sean are facing financial struggles and problems in their marriage, as well as her unhappiness in life. In turn Stephanie reveals her struggles as a single mom when her husband and older half-brother died in the same car accident, and that she had an unhealthy relationship with her sibling.Everything changes when one day Emily asks Stephanie for a favor to watch Nicky while she handles a work crisis and Sean is away in London tending to his sick mother. Stephanie agrees but becomes alarmed when days go by without any contact from Emily and vice versa. While Stephanie and Sean work together to find Emily and solve her disappearance, unexpected twists and turns occur and secrets of Emily's shady past are revealed. The chain of events lead Stephanie to discover shocking truths about Emily and unravel dark mysteries that may have better been left hidden. With good cinematography and an excellent soundtrack and musical score, A Simple Favor provides plenty of dark humored enjoyment with twists and thrills. Veteran actresses Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick have excellent chemistry as new found friends Emily and Stephanie. In one of their best roles, Lively brings out Emily's mysterious beauty and charm while Kendrick brings annoying bubbly delight. Then rising star Henry Golding, who would work with Feig the following year on Last Christmas, was just off the success of Crazy Rich Asians and brings charm and vulnerability to Emily's husband Sean who desires to reclaim his once successful writing career. The rest of the supporting cast includes Jean Smart, Andrew Randalls, and a scene stealing Rupert Friend (playing Dennis Nylon) who provide excellent comic relief both darkly and lightly. The true highlights of A Simple Favor rest with costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus and an excellent soundtrack that fits the overall themes. The soundtrack, which includes Brigitte Bardot's iconic Bonnie and Clyde, give an excellent feel and homage to French music and its place in cinema history (look out for the nod to 1955's Diabolique). Kalfus' costume designs are stylish and fit well with the characters, particularly Emily whose choices match her high profile PR career for a celebrated stylist.Check out A Simple Favor today and add it to your physical library in crystal clear Blu-Ray and a handful of special features. Be sure to grab a cocktail for the viewing!
