best phone for the budget
I've been using Xiaomi since the beginning and usually had to import it or buy it during my travels in Asia so when xiaomi expanded to Europe and uk and Amazon started offering it on prime it became a real game changer. As with all Xiaomi phone the build quality and price to peformance ratio is very hard to beat. The reason I picked this model is I needed something decent for a few months as my contract is up for renewal and my current phone which also a flagship of a major brand has suffered from a broken display so really didn't want to spend flagship money for a short period of time. There's a few things i like about this model; 1. The display - is really good , sharp and contrast and you will see very little difference to other high end ups panels unless you compare to OLED screen. 2. Battery life + performance- I'm a heavy user so am always doing a combination of browsing , social media use, gps (Waze), spotify, youtube and still have juice left at end of the day. And the phone has yet to struggle to keep up partially due to having 3GB ram. Now that's something I haven't found on the other options I was looking at this price. 3. Build quality - the polycarbonate body is strong and light, resistance to scratch and dents is very good, there is reasonable grip and the body has a lip around display which makes it more comfortable to hold over long periods of time and avoid accidental touches to display. Cons; There isn't many for the price range although if there is one thing that should be pointed out its the camera. The camera isn't very good in low light due to lack of image stabilization. So in low light you must have very steady hands else blurry image is almost guaranteed. Overall excellent phone for the money and would recommend to all the are after a decent phone but don't want to splash too much.

Great price/quality balance
Very happy with this phone right now, it has a good battery life (2 days when on battery save mode), I'm happy with the RAM and memory storage. The dual sims work well, and it's easy to choose which one to use upon calling or texting someone. I'm not a mass-photographer but the quality seems good to me, there's also an HD option when taking pictures. Overall very happy for the price I paid.

Started well
Another Samsung software killing off company! When new it worked like a charm, quick, very responsive and a wonderful UI. Then after about 10 month the last update came and was never updated again. However, after that last update the phone went down hill! It had a mind of it's own calling anyone and everyone, the apps where unresponsive and the UI became horrendous! And btw I had no input on the above. About a year or more i had it. Now it's in the right place for it. The Bin..

For the money...a steal!
Didn't expect too much but have been very pleasantly surprised. Wary of Chinese manufacturers that I don't know much about, but Xiaomi are a very successful company (Redmi is their brand), 5th largest smartphone maker in the world and using standard mobile components. They have a proper web presence and release regular updates to their software, which is reassuring. I do like their implementation of Android 8 and they provide loads of their own very useful software on the phone (anti-virus; clean-up; file movement etc). I was very impressed: I felt like I got a lot for my money. Good amount of memory and storage for a mid-range phone, plus you can add to storage with an SD card. Screen is bright and colourful with good contrast; octa-core (8 cores) processor copes well with multi-tasking and games. Can take 2x SIMS at same time which can be very useful; phone is unlocked (use any network you please). Phone is light enough to use one-handed for extended periods. Hard plastic shell but not too 'slippery' and feels secure in the hand. Only two physical buttons on right of case: power and volume, everything else is on-screen (forward/backwards in Android/browsers etc.). Does make for a flat front and more room for the screen so I like it. Camera 12 MPixels + 5 MPixels is good with some clever features (slow-mo video; clever portrait modes etc.). Speaker is on rear of phone so will sound muffled if laid on a surface. Does have a 3.5mm headphone jack on top. Good sound for video/games/music - but I wouldn't expect amazing quality from any phone speaker, to be honest. I was confused as to where the 2x SIM and 1x SD cards went - nothing in limited instructions with phone. Redmi give you a little, metal device (like an open paperclip) and you stick that into the holes on the left side of the case to make the tiny SIM/SD trays pop out. An opened paperclip does the same job (I've lost the supplied device already!). My only concern is how long the battery will keep a charge after numerous charging cycles; as the phone is sealed there's no replacing with a new battery (to be fair: many phones are now sealed and this is a common worry amongst users).

Impressed so far
It seems to be a very good phone for the price so far - I've been using it for about 2 weeks. The battery is not removable, which could be a worry in the future. The instructions for setting up the fingerprint reader aren't very good, but it works well once you figure it out - you need to move your finger by small increments every time it buzzes, not just take it away like I did!! The screen isn't very bright. The battery life is pretty good. I can get a couple of days of use from it.

Great quality and spec's for the price!
Brought this phone after some research as I wanted a decent smartphone for under £150 without being tired into a stupidly high contract. Works great, system is fast (way better than my previous samsung), camera is also really good, even in low light. You would easily pay double to get these features from a 'well known' brand. All in all I am really pleased!
