Captivating
I recently delved into the fascinating world of Greek mythology with the book "Greek Myths & Tales: Epic Tales," and I must say, it was an absolutely captivating experience. This collection of stories took me on an enchanting journey through the ancient Greek myths, leaving me in awe of their timeless appeal. I appreciate the informative introductions and notes provided for each myth. These additions provide valuable context and background information, enriching the reading experience and deepening my understanding of Greek mythology. It's evident that the author has taken great care to ensure a comprehensive and well-rounded presentation of these ancient tales. It's a must-have for anyone interested in Greek mythology.

A slog to read and very condescending towards its subject material and audience.
In the forward there is a sentence "We shouldn't, though, get carried away with the idea of up-to-dateness."It's a shame the rest of the book seems to forget that line though. It is filled with condescension towards the Greeks and their "primitive ideas". It's also an incredibly dry read. Read the Chaos and Nyx story (one of the photos for this product) to get an example. Or read these two sentences from it :"His first act was to dethrone and supplant Chaos; and then, thinking he would be happier with a helpmeet, he married his own mother, Nyx. Of course, with our present views, this marriage was a heinous sin; but the ancients, who at first had no fixed laws, did not consider this union unsuitable, and recounted how Erebus and Nyx ruled over the chaotic world together, until their two beautiful children, Aether(Light) and Hemera(Day), acting in concert, dethroned them, and seized the supreme power."As far as I've read, the entire book is like that. Crazy with run on sentences and bashing of the "primitive peoples", all while reminding us to be good Christians (not like those sinful Greeks). Yeah, marrying your mother isn't good, but the author seems to forget that Adam, Eve, Cain, and Able had to procreate somehow. If you're still not convinced, read the attached photo. It's the Introduction to the Creation Myth section and it's three paragraphs of "The Hebrews knew everything because of the Bible, and the poor Greeks lacking the Bible had to make everything up from scratch, those poor poor uninformed heathens" (some paraphrasing in there.. but it's the general idea)I'm glad I only spent $13 on it used, and at least it looks nice on the shelf, but come on!I'm going to continue reading in hope that it gets better, but this is the most boring and biased version of any mythology I've ever encountered..

Author unable to leave his on religious views out of the book.
This author has a whole page dedicated to his religion, shown in picture. Followed by comments made at other points in the book to remind everyone his religion is the only one. I was too disgusted to finish this book. There are several more books by this publisher I was going to buy. (Norse Mythology, Persian mythology, and the soon to be released Aztec Mythology) But after this book, I will get my Mythologies from other publishers.
