Powerful, great for fossil work.
Excellent tool. I bought this to work on hard limestone rock to extract fossils. I did have to buy a bigger compressor, a 2.2CFM at 90PSI, 8 gallon capacity. It runs maybe every 90 seconds or so while using this tool turned up to 3-4. It’s been error free and I’ve used the same carbide tip for over a year now. It may not start impacting when I first turn it on, but you simply have to tap the tip on something ever so lightly and it will start up. The tool can be set from 1-5. I typically use it at 4 for heavy work, and 2 for more delicate situations.

Defected product
I waited with excitement to use this item but when I got it and hooked it up it just made lots of noise and air coming out of the tip of it but would not do anything. Tried many things and still the same thing. For such an expensive product i had much higher expectation and it shouldn’t been acting like this I have had much cheaper ones working way better. I have packed it for return. What a waste of time and a bad experience.

Good if it starts up
Just received mine, plugged it in to an airline.... NOTHING!!! Then a few moments later it started when the compressor kicked on only to stop after about 4 seconds of running. Can't get it started again, no clue. No trouble shooting info online I can find. It's Friday after CP has closed and I'm not a happy customer! Took the tool apart following the CP YouTube maintenance guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq2PmTtbzdg The piston to cylinder fit felt rough and a little too tight to me so I honed the piston a little using a drill to spin it and some 400 grit sand paper. After that it's been working pretty good, although I think it still seems a little too tight or rough as it still tends to stall, so I should probably hone it some more. The cylinder housing pin is difficult to remove as I had to clamp it to my welding table, shim all my supports so as to ensure that all the energy I applied to strike and remove the spring pin was applied effectively. It actually ought to hone itself in the cylinder, you'd think, if one could get it running for a while.

Great Customer Service!!!
Great Customer Service!!! I purchased 14 of these for my shop and my Techs love the tool. Super easy to setup and use. Seller was awesome when we had a problem with one of the items. They shipped replacement right away so we were not down at all.

Chicago Pneumatic makes a good product, but their quality department isn't finishing the job.
When my order came in I had some issues. I plugged it into the airline and nothing happened. I had this moment of panic, but then it started going. My husband looked on YouTube and found a maintenance guide, so he was able to fix it so that it wouldn't happen again. Since that little hiccup, it's run just fine! The reason for the 3 star rating is because when you pay so much for something, especially when you are purchasing online, sight unseen and trust in the quality is paramount, I feel that we should not have had to go to extra work, find a tutorial, and essentially finish their unfinished product. Otherwise, it's great.

perfect
I am a silver smith and have been struggling a long time to find a pneumatic hammer with enough force, I sanded the stylus down to fit the size I wanted, I would have love to buy one or two more stylus (points) but could not find it on amazon.

The Tool
For being an air tool, this is the best tool for its price catagory, plus not only that, it also does a great job of scribing on metal. In addition to that, I also use it for my engraving work.
