Great knife for the price
This is a well made, evenly balanced, and very sharp knife. At this price, it is easier to replasce it than to pay to have it sharpened!

... wife and I decided we would start shopping for better kitchen knives
My wife and I decided we would start shopping for better kitchen knives. Our previous knives were a gift and after a long time we realized the poor quality of the knives made cooking more difficult. I selected this 8 inch chef's knife, thinking it would be a slight improvement at a very affordable price. I also purchased a sharpening steel and figured that for the price, this would be a great knife to practice sharpening while looking for a better chef's knife. When the knife arrived we were surprised by the weight and solid construction. This knife feels substantial and arrived razor sharp. After using this for many different application, from slicing beef, deboning poultry, chopping vegetables, the knife has been incredible! Also, the edge is held very well. I have not had nearly the opportunity to sharpen this blade as I expected, because it is really a great knife! I know, I am an amateur in the kitchen, but this knife has made tasks faster and easier. I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for a well made and dependable chef's knife.

Are you a chef? Do you *love* to cook ...
Are you a chef? Do you *love* to cook (whether pro or for your own spiritual reasons). Okay, you have met (and adore) Solingen, Trident, Messermeister and Wüsthof knives. Of course. But... you just don't have that kind of money. I am telling you, right now? That these Winco 8 inch and 10 inch knives are about 90% of the way to those same knives, at about 15% (or less) of the cost of those. My 8 inch Winco knife was $20 on Amazon, with FREE shipping. My 10 inch Winco knife was two dollars LESS. These are OUTSTANDING knives, at ANY price. Is fit and finish the "same" as a $120 - $200 Solingen, Trident, Messermeister, or Wüsthof knife? No.How is the knife? It is a world-class knife. Period. The blade, the balance, the handle? All-pro.If you buy some cheezey OTHER knife (that isn't a Solingen, Trident, Messermeister, or Wüsthof) you will be sorry.I give these knives about 28 stars, for their VALUE.Plus Plus? No risk, when using Amazon.

Simplistic functional beauty
After a lot of deliberation and market research, considering I did not want to spend a small fortune on a kitchen knife, I bought this brilliant piece. Three factors always define well built product1. Form- This is beautiful. The handle is made with sturdy plastic. The product is on the heavier side. Though I found the weight extremely manageable and helpful, my wife struggles with it proclaiming its ungainly.2. Function- Came in a bit dull. I like my knife very sharp. I thankfully had a sharpener handy and was able to get knife sharpened to my liking.3. Price- Everyone loves a good bargain. Everyone wants that one piece which looks a million dollars but cost a button and a half. This IS that product. Okay granted that its not a prettiest girl on the block, but its a simplistic functional beauty. And I paid $10 for it when it went on sale on Amazon! $10!! A total steal at all price points below $25

Great knife - and a bargain
I got a Kuma knife first (based on youtube review) and was fairly happy with it. I went to order another, but then found this Winco for less so I ordered it (they looked the same in the picture). The blade on the kuma was decent, but had a tiny bit of flex to it. It is very handle heavy, but I assume some people like a knife weighted that way. The Winco has more steel in the blade, and less flex. Both knives good and sharp out of the box. I now use this Winco for most cutting tasks. It SLICES through watermelons like they are butter. I'm assuming it will eventually require sharpening, but out of the box, I didn't touch it. VERY sharp. It is a beefy knife (very sturdy). Not sure how long it will last (based on the price...) but it is such a decent buy, I am getting a few more.Note that the Winco has a slightly different handle than pictured (less of a hook at the end).

Well balanced! Excellent value and edge retention!
Such a good knife! It gives 100 dollar “damascus steel” knives a run for the money. The blade is thicker than the premium knives, but for 15 dollars it cannot be beat. It has excellent balance with the center of gravity right at the hilt(see pic), and a blunt back(choil) and I’ve managed use this to crack crab claws and coconuts without any issues. It sharpens up really well with a standard ceramic V sharpen and keeps its edge about 4-5 weeks of daily use.

Do not trust these reviews.Heavy in all the wrong places.this knife looks like it has already been sharpened 1000 times with a grinder, that's how bad the shape is. It also had a small to medium but very noticeable chip near the tip.the angle... the width... the balance... this knife is so bad, which is a shame because the steel seems to be of great quality.you would have to be a home cook with no real culinary experience to think this was a good chef knife.its like some dude with the right materials randomly made a knife. weirdest combinations of high quality materials and bad craftsmanship i have ever seen.

Excellent Chef knife.
This is a great knife. It has heft and a nice balance. It is not light weight, the blade can do most of the work. It also sharpens well using both a ceramic rod, or a diamond stone. Remember, this is not stainless steel. You must wash it, dry it, and I like to take a napkin with a few drops of olive oil and wipe it down before putting it away. If you do that every time you use it, I have no doubt that this knife will last your whole life.

Great Value
The Acero series of knives from Winco offer near professional quality at a bargain price. I am delighted with them. They hold an edge and have a solid heft. I have the 5"Utility, 8" Slicer, 8" Chef, 6" Boning, 3.5" Paring knives and the 7" Carving fork.

Well built knife but some sharpening needs to be done to make it better
Very well built carbon steel knife. Came not sharp out of the box, at least for my preference. After some time on a sharpening stone, the edge is razor sharp and retains the edge well.
