A good film
The dvd is in good condition plays well. It is a excellent film I enjoyed the film it was well made, and acted strong violence scenes which might be not suitable for younger people. The film is about Irish independence from British rule, and how the British army treated the Public in Ireland. A film for thought.

A Terrible Beauty...
An excellent follow-up to the equally excellent Rebellion, this time focusing on the Irish War of Independence between 1919-21. Here the focus is smaller, more confined, and verging on claustrophobic at times. Exactly like everyday life in Dublin when these events took place.Between 1919-21 Dublin was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. While ordinary people tried to go about their daily lives, the British Army, the British Secret Service, the Dublin Metropolitan Police and the Royal Irish Constabulary were engaged in a fight to the death with the Irish Republican Army under the overall control of Michael Collins. It was a dirty war, with no quarter asked for or given by either side. Everyone, involved or not, was in danger. Death was ever present. Suspicion, mistrust and treachery were everywhere. No one knew who was who, what was what, or what would happen next. It was terrifying, it was exhilarating, and it was almost stranger than fiction. Except it was not fiction. It was very, very real. While academic and historical experts will be critical of some of the inaccuracies in the plot lines of Resistance, in truth these are relatively minor, and do not detract from the quality of the programme. Neither do they significantly distort the key facts of the situation depicted. It would be impossible to compress over two years of events into less than five hours of screen time without taking a certain amount of creative license. Portraying some complex and multi-faceted real-life figures as one dimensional, adapting timelines to fit with plot developments, truncating lengthy political developments into a few minutes of screen time, and creating fictional characters to permit the development of human-interest plot lines.Taken overall, Resistance is top class thriller, combining drama, tension, intrigue, cowardice, bravery, treachery, patriotism, idealism and hope. It moves from plush drawing rooms to bleak stairwells, from expensive town-houses to tenement buildings , from smoke-laden meeting rooms to midnight conversations in dark alleyways. It will thrill you, scare you and remind you of the high price that has often been paid to achieve the freedoms we all too often take for granted. Truly this was a time, when, in the words of WB Yeats, 'a terrible beauty was born'Buy this DVD and see for yourself .

Good atmosphere, unclear story.
I liked the topic and it’s handling. It seemed to me, however, that the sequence of events was not entirely logical. The season was Rebellion 2, probably renamed to avoid confusion with the French resistance. It just seemed that the Bloody Sunday events toke place in different order, over and over again. But the camerawork and acting were good.

A Realistic Reminder of Recent History
Previously unknown to me, I found this well acted and well produced series engrossing for a number of reasons, notleast because of a family ancestor who was a victim of the original Bloody Sunday shootings in 1920s Dublin. The various plot lines keep the attention and set the scene for the tragic civil war that followed the end of that yeardepicted in this series. The settings and the dedication to period details are particularly noteworthy. Recommended.
