Product Description Over the course of a year, Let the Church Say Amen chronicles the daily life surrounding World Missions for Christ Church in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Like many urban communities that haven't benefited from America's prosperity, these citizens face challenges that would be shocking for any U.S. city, let alone that of the nation's capital: Rampant drug abuse, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, and violence. Yet the strength of this community comes from the powerful faith of a storefront church of modest resources but great spiritual power. Years ago the space was a corner store, now it serves as a sanctuary where members gather every Sunday to sing, pray, testify and work through faith to change the community. LET THE CHURCH SAY AMEN & AMEN & AMEN....!!!
This highly acclaimed documentary takes place in a small, storefront Black Pentecostal Church in Washington, D.C. in the shadow of the Capitol. While geographically close, the worlds of these two institutions are light years apart. This week our government has proposed hundreds of billions of bailout funds for Wall Street. In the film, church members pass the 'plate' to raise $200 so one of the members can repair their car to get to work. The film follows four members of the church for a year as they pursue their dreams and hopes. Each one faces significant challenges, both of the external variety and those of the self-imposed consequences. It also shows the church going into the community. While they are most of very modest, perhaps even impoverished means, they care as much for others in the community as they do for themselves. They offer free clothes, food shelves, shelter, medical care and counseling and, of course, spiritual healing to everyone regardless of whether they join the church or not. There is nothing subtle about their faith, that it is Jesus who has changed their lives and gives them strength for living each day. Whether you agree with them, you can't help but love these people who are so authentic and genuine in their care for each other and their community. They don't play church. They live it in a way most of haven't experienced who live in nice, neat suburban areas. Director David Petersen does a great job of letting them tell their own story without either glamorizing or putting it down. Perhaps our legislators should visit this church instead of the big cathedrals. It might help to keep life in perspective. [...]

Amazing!
I live in totally different part of the world and in different cultural set up and serve as a Priest.A different hostile environment but the growth of Church here is phenomenon!'Let the Church say Amen' made me to think many things. I could not believe the struggle and loneliness of Church in USA thus far as it is exposed here in this DVD. The tears, sweat, pain, heartache, joy expressed here in this short DVD inside this little Churchmakes me Thankful for the Lord even though serving God in hostile land in difficult situation. I think I am more privileged and blessed. Thankful to you all in DVD for your heart for the Lord, faithfulness and your commitment to Lord Jesus Christ!

Church as a vehicle of mutual aid
This is the story of a store-front church in a low-income area of Washington DC. The faith of the parishioners is tested by poverty, gang violence, and unemployment. The church is a source of connection that allows members to truly support one another in times of difficulty. Their faith is a source of strength that allows them to cope with overwhelming tragedy. Here is religion as a foundation for community and as a path for a better future.

A Truly Inspirational Documentary
The film was extraodinary! The hurdles that church members overcame in the face of tremendous odds was inspiring to say the least. This small African-American Pentecostal congregation, located within the vicinity of the nation's seat of government in Washington D.C., provided a comfort zone for its members who were struggling economically and emotionally. While strapped financially itself, the church assisted members navigate toward a better life. The production crew and director were magnificent in capturing the determination of this body of church folk in never giving up hope. Truly inspirational for believers and non-believers alike!A. Fantastic movie about faith in real life!
I saw this film at Sundance two years ago and desperately wanted a copy of it right away. I am delighted to have found it now on Amazon. It is not only a riveting portrait of faith lived out in the context of very difficult situations, it is also an important corrective to the treacly, mass-marketed, individualistic piety that dominates much of what is labeled "Christian" nowadays. I wept through much of it, but they were good tears -- tears of joy.
