MacGyver - The Complete First Season
A**R
FINALLY, my prayers have been answered!!!
Now I know why he never said his first name.. (did he ever say on the show?) MAC GYVER IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE TV SHOW. The first couple seasons of Mac are absolutely the best (Mac the international problem solver)..loved all the extra 5 minute preview stories. Then Paramount lost their edge in the last half (Mac the urban avenger). This package is certainly worth every penny for commercial free, uninterupted Mac although I agree with most that they could have put in more work to talk to the frequently shown cast and explain where the idea for the show started. This show deserved some frills to be added but a true fan like me is just glad after 20 years to have something better than my worn out tapes. After the first show I was hooked, I tried back in 1985 to record each show but tape gets old, mess ups on pausing/recording, or tapes accidentally get ruined. For years I have wished for a set like this to come out and as I do every so often when I watch a show on TVland or WGN I hoped something like this would be made and just this past weekend I saw the commercial and couldn't order the set fast enough. For a kid of only 14-15 in 1985 to see someone think on his toes like Mac and save the day made him my hero and I still think of him that way. A TRULY INSPIRATIONAL GOOD GUY!! RDA is a class act and SG1 shows he wasn't just a flash in the pan. He is my generation's James Bond before we really knew of James Bond. I hope this package does well to illustrate just how popular the show was and is. The shows in this package to me are the best of the best. Extras would be the only thing they could have added to make the set complete. Paramount, HINT..HINT for Season 2!!!

I HOPE IT'S NOT EDITED!!!
First off, I must say I'm excited about this DVD release and have ordered it. Second off, I'm crossing my fingers because I have taped the ENTIRE season of MacGyver off THREE different versions shown on TV (USA, WGN, and TVLand). All of them are slightly different...slightly edited! Evidence of this? Viewers of TVLand will not see a metal pipe burst into flames as Mac uses it to test how hot a door is in "Pilot." Viewers of WGN and USA will not see the final basketball scene of the "Pilot." TVLand version of "The Gauntlet" shortens the classic Mac & Kate love scene. WGN cuts out about a minute from the opening gambit of "The Gauntlet" and also Mac's quip about 'feeling sympathetic for chickens' in "The Golden Triangle." The list goes on... While these missing bits do not detract from the story of the show, it annoys the hell out of completists like me not to be able to see every episode in its entirety. Please, Paramount, have the episodes be in their uncut form. I read somewhere that the runtime is 17 hrs. 25 min. for these 22 episodes. That boils down to about 47-48 min. per episode, much longer than the 44 min. ones shown on TV (i'm talking about final runtime after commercials are removed). Still, I heard the original "Pilot" on ABC was 90 minutes long. So, I for one, would rather have the episodes all intact rather than some measly extra features, which wouldn't hurt if they put it in. If this turns out to be the real deal, look for me to buy all 7 seasons. I haven't had this much fun since I've been "in the back seat of a car." Long live MacGyver!!!

MACGYVERRRRRRRRRR
Beware, there is some reference to the Pilot Episode so if you want to watch that without knowing anything about it, please feel free to skip this review. It has a Canadian Home Video Rating of PG and carries the warning that it is not recommended for young children and that it has a mature theme. I, on the other hand, think that MacGyver should be shown to children at a very young age because it teaches people to exercise creativity when given severe constraints and to be calm even when adversity is giving you a death stare. Also, MacGyver's moral messages are still casually contagious during Season 1, unlike the in-your-face-and-lungs The Truth commercials. First of all, he hates guns worse than I hate how Paramount waited so long to release this (except in the Pilot Episode when his moral system wasn't completely intact yet and Pete Thornton was some other guy). Second, his reaction to cigarettes in the Pilot Episode is golden. The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program should look into getting the rights to show that clip to children because it would show them secondhand that firsthand smoking can be a source of great discomfort.I''m quite satisfied with the picture quality. However, the visuals weren't remastered so the picture is noticeably grainy sometimes. However, the 80's synthesizer beats that are prevalent throughout every episode sound exquisitely crisp and more than offset the picture quality. This really is Patty and Selma's nondry dreams come true. The plots are entertaining and the frequent use of explosives is sufficient enough to keep Vin Diesel living his life a quarter mile at a time.

Pretty amazing...
I was absolutely surprised to see this even being released and I bought it as soon as I could. Here's how I see it:Cons:1. It asks for you to select the language (German, English, French) each and every time you put a disc in. I have hundreds of blu rays and this is the only one that does that. If there are any other ones released, it needs to be fixed.2. There are a few scenes in various episodes where the flesh tones do not look realistic. These are rare but a few do exist.3. The non-stop audio on the menu is annoying. Perhaps more personal taste than anything.4. Extras of any sort would have been nice.Pros:1. Audio: Amazing. Nothing else to be said2. Video: in almost all cases, stunning. I've seen these episodes over and over and what I see on these discs are amazing. I use a Sony Ultra HD UBP X7000 and I remain in awe of what I have seen.So many blu rays I own look blah - the transfer just wasn't well done. Not here.Buy this set, you won't be disappointed.

MacGyver Season 1 Blu-ray
The other comments shown on this page from amazon.com (and all that are listed there), are for the DVD versions of both the original 1985 series and the 2016 series of MacGyver Season 1, misleadingly mixed together. They are not relevant to this product, which is the Blu-ray version of the 1985 series season 1, starring Richard Dean Anderson, released in November 2018.The first season starts differently than the other seasons, with a 6-8 minute short, which is unrelated to the main story, showing an ingenious method MacGyver uses to cleverly outwit a large number of aggressors and successfully escape, with dramatic humor. The rest of the episode sees him use all types of simple objects to solve the numerous challenges he faces. This high definition version looks great and is well worth having, even if you have the DVD version. This is MacGyver, and Richard Dean Anderson, at his best.

Un buen recuerdo de la nostalgia
Para aquellos que hemos pasado los 20 con creces, es un buen recuerdo de añoranza y nostalgias que nos enfundan el pasado. Una compra muy acertada.
