Q: Got this as a gift, very nice but needs some sanding on sharp edges and rough spots. Does it need an oil finish?

I never had that problem..but it may need that

Q: Could you use a wood burning tool to burn names into the cheese board?

I wouldn't try it because the board looks like it was put together like butcher block... in sections and I feel like it wouldn't stand up to it.
