This is a 240 Volt unit. It takes a double pole 40 amp breaker and #8/2 wire.

Q: Can you install the megaboost with a natural gas tankless?

Sure, you can, not sure why you would, but the megaboost gives 10kw heat to the water and does not restrict flow like a normal tankless water heater. so, in your use case, you could expect that the megaboost would preheat the water going into your natural gas tankless, allowing it to produce more and hotter water. Q: What power outlet is needed for this installation or should it be exclusively hardwired?

This item needs to be hardwired.

Q: How exactly does this device get you more hot water?

I will either heat up water to put into your tank to help you get more total gallons or if on the outlet side will take the water as it cools down from the tank and heat it up, increasing the total gallons that way.
