Seldom do we need heated troughs, but when we do....this was the best solution. Out of the way from horses who are always curious and love to chew on things....especially cables. Prior to installation I was having to break through up to 4 inches of ice each morning. Also keeps their drinking water from being too cold. Product worked as advertised.

Easy to install

I've went through two to three floating tank de-icers every winter for the last 6 years where my nosey horses sling them out of the tank and short them out. This is my first time using a drain plug type and I'll never use a floating device again!

I've had horses for 35 years and this is my favorite livestock water heater. I live in Ohio and have used this brand for about 20 years. The copper tubes are larger diameter and heavier walled than similar heaters. I use mine in a 100-gallon High Country Plastics tank. Since the heater fits into the drain plug opening, the heater is near the bottom of the tank, out of reach of bored and curious horse mouths. The design is truly universal: size and threading of the plug is irrelevant. A rubber gasket on the inside and large plastic nut (about 2 1/2 inch) on the outside hold the heater in place. I use a little silicon sealer on the gasket to help prevent leaking. The heater is thermostatically controlled and the heaters last for several years.

This is actually the second one I've had. The first one worked great until a really nosy young gelding broke it just for fun. I got this one installed easily and it was working great for the next freeze.
