Lovely learning book
This is a great little learning book to study different animals (mostly insects and small animals) and how they build their homes. The first pages are the animals so the kids can happily identify them before the book begins then each page describing how they build their homes and why. The pictures give a good view of what they animals do and make it fun to read and the language is not too complicated for them to understand. For kids who are keen on nature and animals this is a lovely book to read.

Includes a wide range or animals and lots of new vocabulary
Although it looks like a simple children's book rather than a reference book; this little treasure is packed with information and new vocabulary. The book explores the homes of a wide range of animals from banded snails to North American beavers, bark spiders to lemurs. The added advantage is that it can be read relatively quickly if the kids want it as a bedtime book and there was much hilarity, in our house, when they learned about sea cucumbers breathing through their bums!

A book with character
Little Jakey pants (4) sat and listened with great interest while looking at the pictures. Mostly short paragraphs about a variety of animals from around the world, some local, some from far afield. Brief and interesting, educational without being bland. Really great illustrations, full of character. They seem to be some kind of paintings but I'm not sure how they were done. They remind me of the art in the cartoons "The Snowman" and "When The Wind Blows". Myself and JP were very satisfied.

Amazing Animal Homes
Amazing Animal Homes by Chris Packham and illustrated by Jason Cockcroft, introduces the amazing (excuse the pun) variety of homes that animals live in. From the lodge of a beaver, to the shell of a banded snail, and the slightly more exotic home of the pearl fish. The book looks at nine animals in detail, giving each a double page spread, and there are also 6 other animals mentioned in the introduction. There's a discover more section at the back of the book which tells you a little bit more about the 15 animals mentioned in the book - this is great if you're looking at it with slightly older children than the recommended age of 3-5.Bearing in mind that the book is aimed at children, how appealing you as a parent find the book may depend on a large extent to how you feel about the illustrations (if you check out the Look Inside feature on the product page you'll get an idea of the style). I wasn't overly wowed but I think the content of the book is interesting (it has an entry on the pearl fish! Which I think will definitely appeal to children, though it doesn't go into too much detail) and will give young children an immediate grasp of how different animals tackle the problem of providing themselves with shelter. My daughter (5) really liked looking at the book and hearing about the different animals and their homes and wanted to tackle the reading herself. My son (3) - not really interested yet.The book is part of a series, there are also books on animal babies and animal journeys. If giving as a present might be worth gifting as a set.Overall - a good introduction to natural history for the younger members of the family.

Stunning
I’ve always been a fan of Chris packham. He’s engaging and passionate about animals and makes you think of them in a different way, I.e considering the benefits of wasps as opposed to swotting then! This is a wonderful book. Gorgeous illustrations and little tit bits of information about where animals live, their homes and habitats. It’s a lovely book, great for kids and for big kids too, like me, to learn more! Lovely!
