This is not a ferro rod. This is not meant to throw sparks. This is meant to be shaved into small little shavings, and then receive the sparks so it lights up and actually starts the fire. It's basically a very strong burning tinder. All of the people commenting how this is a bad product because it doesn't produce sparks have no actual idea what this product is.

It's magnesium, yes, but it's only 5 grams of magnesium. The small size might be an advantage sometimes (like a small firestarting kit). But there are less expensive alternatives of much larger size.

Umm 🤔 I didn’t expect it to be so small, I think £7 is a little steep for the size tbh. Well, it’s definitely magnesium because it lit up, and maybe I shouldn’t have looked directly into the white flame 🙄

Avoid this. I get more spark from my spit. It's fake and diabolically crap. Why do Amazon allows this?As I have mentioned, I have tried to get a strike from it and nothing, my other ones work a treat. Sucker I am, and the seller is to be avoided.
