A Very Nice Travel Guitar For the Price
I bought this guitar to have something smaller to bring along when traveling, something that I didn't have to worry about too much.I ended up swapping strings, and I tried several sets before settling on a set of Elixir light/mediums (.012 top, .056 bottom). With straight mediums, there was pronounced belly bow and the sound was not ideal; with lights, the bass strings felt sloppy and lacking a bit of volume. The light/mediums hit the sweet spot and deliver a nice, balanced tone with a decent amount of bottom end.As far as the guitar itself goes, I find that I like the Richlite fretboard. The neck is comfortable, satin finished, and 1-3/4" at the nut. The body finish is satin and feels very thin (not a bad thing). It tends to gloss slightly with wear where you rest your hand. There is no pick guard, which is fine for me as I am mainly fingerpicking. The tuners are good, the action was spot on, the intonation is perfect, and the volume is surprisingly robust for a small short-scale guitar. The soft case is okay but thin -- probably not ideal for a lot of travel though. I found a Gator parlor guitar case fits this guitar perfectly. This guitar isn't going to be a D18 or an HD28 with that same distinct rich, buttery, booming voice, but it isn't intended to be. It is a parlor guitar with its own voice, which is balanced, articulate, and lively, especially with the right strings.

This is the one
Out of the box it was playable with tuning, no luthier required for this one, If there are any adjustments to make they'll be for personal preferences not because it's required to make it playable. Very pleased and will enjoy my new Martin guitar. Looks and sounds really nice.

Little wonder
Magical little axe. Great for fingerstyle, the sound really projects sparkly clear which is exactly what I was hoping for. I had tried many guitars at a local store recently. This was brighter than the jumbos I played. The neck is plenty wide. Intonation was perfect out of the box. May install a pick up at some point and pair it with my Roland mobile amp for a super portable busking set up. Forget the x series this is easily the best Martin you can buy at this price point.
