Sure can. There is a chart showing how you measure your hand and what size. Depends on how big the 16 year old is.

Q: Can you wash these gloves in a washing machine and is the size accurate or do you need to get a size up ?

The size worked for me. They have some give so there is room for error. I quite like mine on the tight side. I have washed them pretty regularly without any undue damage.

No they didn’t even work on my touch screen phone, they were a waste of money.
