Q: This is a type of check valve correct? The ability to take the lid off serves what purpose? Could you run a snake down the line with the top off?

Taking the lid off allows you to clear debris out of the valve. Yes--you get full access to the line from the top of the valve. I use it to drain a yard that floods during high tide. Works well.

Q: Can this valve be used under ground?

Yes, our Backwater valves can be used underground. You can also install an access sleeve (straight piece of pipe) in order to service the valve at the surface.

Q: I received this valve and it came with a seal for the flapper. However, the seal will not stay in the grove on the flapper. Any suggestions?

Hi. It comes with 2 O rings, one is for the flapper, add some syllicon glue, like the used on motor engines, this backwater works really good,

Featuring a quick action flapper with an elastomeric seal for a water-tight closure, this valve also includes a threaded access cap with a neoprene seal for easy hand-tightening and removal. It fits over 1-1/2" Sch. 40 DWV pipe or into a 2" coupling, making it a versatile choice for various drainage needs.
