Yeah, from the front to the rear side of the chair and from arm to arm. External measurements.

Q: i want to disassemble this chair, but can't remove the metal bit that is attached to bottom of chair for connecting to the base. Any suggestions?

If I can remember the shaft on the bottom of the chair didn't screw in it was just a push fit so the best way would probably be to use a pair of mole grips and just wiggle it out but to be honest I think it's one of those fittings where once it's been fitted it's not designed to be taken out otherwise it would have been a screw fit I hope this has helped.
