Good question! This sun cream is only available with SPF 30 for two reasons: 1) The difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50 is 1%. 2) To achieve SPF 50, additional UV filters have to be added which are less safe than zinc oxide. Below you will find more information on both points: 1) SPF 30 versus SPF 50. What many people do not know is that the SPF scale is not linear. This means that SPF 30 protects against 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 protects against 98% of UVB rays - so the difference is only 1% more UVB rays blocked by a SPF 50 sunscreen compared to a SPF 30 sunscreen. In order to reach SPF 50, we would have to add additional UV-filters, which are less safe than zinc oxide without nanoparticles. For example, titanium dioxide (not photostable, produces free radicals when in contact with UV light or chloride) or chemical UV filters, which have been proven to cause coral bleaching, infertility in fish, skin irritations, allergies and hormonal disorders in humans. This sunscreen contains Organic Beeswax which means it's not strictly vegan. The Beeswax helps to achieve water resistance.
