Shake gently (note that it is a rattle can). Stick the red tube into cap. Stick the red tube into the lock and spray gently (not too much). Give it a minute or two. Stick a key into and out of the lock several times. Turn the key a few times and you are good to go. Go easy on the amount you use because it will stain!No mention is made of what solvent to use in case you do screw up. I have used a damp paper towel which works OK while the stuff is still wet. The rest of the instructions is all the lawyer stuff about use in a well ventillated area and all the calamities that might befall you. I haven't noticed any particular odors nor irritation nor any other problems. Lock-ease works well. As an aside, the label on my can was also torn in a couple of spots. The manufacturer should look into using a label with a bit more staying power than paper held together with tape.mahalo,jo4hn

Not sure, but the theory behind how this product works is this; the can has graphite, and a light lubricant(similar to penetrating fluid) inside it. The lubricant acts as a carrying agent for the graphite; in other words, its main purpose is to mix with the graphite and carry the graphite to the lock mechanism inside. The penetrating fluid evaporates eventually, which is why having the graphite is beneficial; once the lubricant is gone, the graphite stays behind and still provides lubrication for your lock. I am not familiar with the other product you mention, but using the straw and getting this sprayed inside your lock is probably the best way to get some lubrication inside it that will last more than a few weeks.
