I tried stella & chewy freeze dried food. my cat didn't love it & i found the pieces very hard to break apart after adding moisture. how is this brand

I feed our five cats both, Stella & Chewy's freeze dried morsels as well as Primal Nuggets and they all love it. Here's how to make this work: Instead of water, add Only Natural Pet Bone Broth (or any other brand, but I happen to like this one) - and here's the part that will make it MUCH easier to break the food apart: after adding the broth, put the mixing bowl in the microwave for 15 seconds! When you take it out, add a bit more cold bone broth so that it isn't too hot - you'll see - your cat will go for it! So you don't have to squish it all down to a mush. Keep the morsels. They are now juicy! I talk about it in one of the episodes of my CatCrazy Channel - so there you can see how I do it. Trust me, this way your cat will go for it! Quality is fabulous - both brands! I sometimes add a bit of extra Felo Taurine supplement to the mix. Perfect food to keep your cat healthy :)

How long does a bag primal cat food last a 12lb adult cat?

We get the big bags. Our 12+ lb., 10+ year old tabby is in/out doors, so, might exercise more than a house-only cat. He’s not too picky, but doesn’t change tastes or brands in a hurry. Only feeds he did change to, immediately fast, have been these Primal bricks, & the ziwi canned. —> If the “deer biscuits” (venison) bricks are the only feed in a day, he will eat 3 or 4 bricks fixed with water, divided up over the day. Once in awhile, he wants 5 bricks per day. We wait til he asks for food to fix one. Once in awhile, he will eat some, then come back later to finish, but, usually gobbles it up in one go, & licks the bowl. And, we usually have some other kibbly-bits of something like Ziwi freeze dried or canned, to give a variation to the Primal bricks, either to leave as a snack, or as treats. We’ve found the Ziwi is Very good, but costly, & ships from half the word away plus cans to recycle (environmental cost!!!!), so, still trying to find the like of it in the US. But the freeze dried Primal bricks are generally the go-to staple, so we keep them on-hand. Ours loves the chicken (very easy to crumble), or the venison (hard to crumble). But we must only break them into bite-size lumps..if it gets to be like pate’ consistency, he has to be pretty hungry to go after that texture..he wants to mostly chew the just-wetted morsels. It takes about 1 to 2 Tblsp water per crumbled brick..he doesn’t care if water is cool, nor if the bits are damp-through.

After a year of good luck, I found two lot numbers where the nuggets are darker and cat won't eat. Anyone else with this problem?

I've been using the Primal Frozen version of Venison for a few years and the product has been consistent in color up until the last few months. Now it seems to vary in color from bag to bag and my cats don't like the newer color meat very much. They reluctantly eat it and usually won't finish it.. I was looking into switching to the freeze dried but now I see issues with that as well. I contacted Primal and they said they didn't change their source and it's normal for the meat to vary from batch to batch but personally I've noticed consistency with it for a few years up until now. I don't like the idea of changing because I like the company but it's important that my kitties enjoy their food.

Why are these like rocks, I've bought this brand before and you could crumble with your fingers?

I don’t buy them anymore because of that. They are either old or overcooked. I buy Stella and Chewys freeze dried dinner morsels. Every once in a while I get a bag that is hard but they usually replace it for me.
