Q: Are there other colors available?

Black was the only option when I purchased it.

Q: If my diameter measures 23" exactly, should I get a L or XL?

My head measures 21" and I purchased a small. If they go up an inch each size (just a guess) a large would do it

The sizes really are as stated. I have the Large Top Hat as well as a Large Bowler/Derby Hat, and a friend bought a Medium. The sizing is rather consistent, and they stretch slightly to allow for the slight differences (such as a half-inch larger head) without losing durability. My friend's Medium Derby does not fit, and I met someone with an XL Top Hat that is a little too big on me.

Q: is this a good hat for a magician / mime?

I don’t know the specific requirements of a magician or mine’s hat but yes I’d say it would work. It’s a solid hat, not flimsy, and looks very good.
