Weems & Plath Atlantis Collection Quartz Ship's Bell Clock (Brass)

After having this clock for many years, my husband and I decided to surprise our son and his wife with the same clock for Christmas. After checking prices online; without a doubt, Amazon had the best price and free shipping. I received the clock and base the day after ordering it (even during the pre-Christmas rush!). I started to second-guess my gift decision, as I did spend more than our normal budget; and I never even asked my son and daughter-in-law if they would even like to have a mantel clock. Christmas morning arrived and my doubts were not necessary...they loved the clock!The additional price for the "ship's bell" was about $100 more than the same clock without the traditional chime; but well worth the extra cost. My daughter-in-law loved hearing the sound every half hour and commented that she had grown up in a home with clocks that chimed and hadn't realized how much she missed this comforting sound up until now! My son, who is a sailor, loved the traditional brass ship's clock and mahogany wood base...This was well worth going over budget on as I am sure they will enjoy the Weems & Plath Ship's Clock for many years; just as my husband and I have!

The bell is a little quiet but in our dining room it is perfect. Really a pretty piece mounted with the barometer on a piece of teak with a bell.

I asked for and received this as a gift. As others have said, the bells are so soft that you cannot hear them unless you are sitting right next to it. It doesn't keep accurate time (mine gains about 5 min. every week). After owning it for a couple of years the bells stopped working most of the time, and when they do ring, they are not in sync.For the amount of money this piece of junk cost, you would expect it to work. It doesn't.

The clock stopped keeping accurate time not long after it was bought. My clock repair man said it had to be sent back to Chelsea--it was not fixable locally. He also said a quartz clock like this one should have kept good time for decades, not weeks. ("too many cheap plastic parts from China inside:)

Beautiful piece, pricey, but really nice, 1st cabin! For those who use the stand and can't hear the chimes I have to laugh! All you do is rotate the mechanism in the body with chime holes on top, voila! For wall mounting on a boat holes should be down for moisture, not an issue on my bar!On edit: love the clock, purchased on Monday, now on Saturday it's $50 less! To me that's HS, you got me again!!!

classic design for a trawler type boat or nautical themed room. works well and looks great. quite deep in profile.
