Q: Can the consumer swap the Euro Cylinder (after purchase) please?

Yes and No. The Euro Cylinder has a sprocket wheel instead of the usual cam. ( the pinion of the rack-and-pinion mechanism). The cylinder can be removed, but suppliers of "keyed-alike" cylinder sets don't want to know about supplying cylinders which will take a suitable pinion. You cant just fit an ordinary Euro cylinder.

Q: Will this lock fit a 45mm thick gate

Yes but as it's a 70mm you would have to pack it off 30mm. However they do other sizes, which would probably be nearer you gate thickness if you do a search.

Q: Will it fit a 72mm gate

It will probably fit be a bit tight but the lock would not protude on the other side but its only 2mm so it should be ok

Q: Can you alter the way the lock is positioned, via the shaft going to the left instead of the right?

Yes you can. The lock is universal and it comes with 2 self adhesive template of the lock to allow you to line up and drill the relevant holes you get a left hand and 4igyt hand template. I used mine for a left hand lock. Straight forward to do
