Q: Could you use this for removing stain to refinish cabinets?

This scraper has a blunt 90 degree edge, so it will not dig in to wood like a chisel point or a putty knife will. Stain generally soaks in to the surface of wood, so a cabinet scraper or sanding might be the best option. Chemical strippers might also work. This scraper is a very good option to use with chemical scrapers. If you cabinets have raised panels, or other contours, you might also need a contour scraper.

This scraper will work, but there that sounds like a big job. Lots of things to consider. How old is the house (lead paint?)? Do you want to get down to bare wood? How loose it the paint? Keep in mind that this scraper is only 1-1/4" wide. Your siding is likely 3" wide or more. A small scraper gives you more force, but you will need more strokes for a given area. There is an SS2 model which is 2" wide, but I don't believe that it is available on Amazon at the moment. Other things to consider are chemical strippers and a heat gun. This scraper will work with both of these methods, plus just dry scraping the loose paint. I would suggest a couple of different styles of scrapers. Some areas of your porch will likely work best with different scrapers and methods. For example, you might need a contour scraper for trim pieces, and a 4" draw scraper in other areas, and this scraper for everything else.

It could be used to scrape just about anything, although you would have to be careful not to gouge wood with it.
