Got this as an improvement over the stock antenna for the ft-817.As I have a 80-6m antenna that is about 10 ft high. The telescopic length of this one is not an issue. And the gain over a rubber duck is worth it.On 2m you need the antenna fully extended to keep SWR at 1:1 but on 70cm. It works fine with just the first section extended. I think the center coil actually acts as a trap. Preventing the top half being used at 70cm.Throw the whip away. Even on 70cm its swr is about 1:5. Usable but not worth the effort.
